Located in the heart of the industrial zone of 10^th of Ramadan city, Coats Egypt is a world leading textile factory that works in manufacturing and dying sewing threads. Coats Egypt is a technology driven company providing top-quality textiles to over eleven different industries, including apparel, electronics, automotive and even medical.

Floor stacking presented a lot of challenges for Coats Egypt. They could only store a small amount of stock in a warehouse that could potentially store a lot more. Floor stacking also meant that the storage area suffered from poor ventilation and a LIFO stock control method that did not work for them. Coats Egypt needed a solution that would provide sufficient storage space, improve their efficiency, minimize costs, as well as comply with the safety requirements of the plant. Al-Safwa made sure to deliver something that was tailor made for the company and its needs. The team was also creative with the challenges they were presented with and made many visits to ensure the customer had a better understanding of their needs and was provided with information and support. Coats Egypt had different storage needs for the raw materials and the finished products.

Al-Safwa presented Heavy Duty Selective Pallet Racking with a height of six meters and a capacity of two tons for the raw materials, as they come in pallets from outside of the factory. Selective pallet racking systems provide easy accessibility to all products at all times. It also provided sufficient capacity for the factory’s needs and minimized costs. It also provided clear aisles of three meters for their reach trucks and supported their FIFO method of stock control.

For the finished product, Al-Safwa provided Medium Duty Racks with a height of three meters and a capacity of 500 kilograms. The finished products were all packed in cartons, and therefore medium duty racks were the suitable solution as they are naturally lightweight, durable and of superior strength.

Results

• Optimum utilization of the warehouse space was achieved and all the needs of the customer were met.
• The finished warehouse was 80% Medium Duty Racking and 20% Selective Pallet Racking.
• Safe warehousing solutions including perforated steel, wire mesh and lighting system were installed minimizing fire and worker safety hazards.
• Warehouse expansion is now easily obtained, as the warehouse structure was installed with a possibility of adding a 2-storey mezzanine on top.
